Julia Moulden’s new book, “We Are The New Radicals: A Manifesto for Reinventing Yourself and Saving the World” was published internationally by McGraw-Hill, New York. She has written speeches for CEOs, cabinet ministers, and celebrities since 1985.
With all the bad news about, you may feel like pulling the covers up over your head and waiting until it’s over. That thought has certainly crossed my mind.
But just beyond the headlines, there is good news, and plenty of it. And, if you think about it, six billion people around the world share your desire to hear it. To believe there is hope. And that fact gets me out of bed each day.
My work is to tell inspiring stories. About ordinary people doing extraordinary things. About modern-day heroes.
- People like the New Radicals – men and women like us who’ve discovered how to put the skills acquired in our careers to work on the world’s greatest challenges.
- Like authentic leaders – who know that, now more than ever, people want to be led by men and women with clear values (think President Obama).
- And like organizations that have embraced “green” – doing so even in a challenging economy because it’s the right thing to do, because it creates a more productive workplace, and because it goes straight to the bottom line.
Perhaps best of all, these are not simply “feel good, now back to work” stories. They’re also deeply instructive, and include practical ideas that each of us can incorporate into what we do.
In the coming months, I’m going to write about these heroes. As you read about them, I invite you to see whether their ideas change the way you lead and how you serve. As Stanford economist Paul Romer famously said, “A crisis is a terrible thing to waste.” How we emerge from the current turmoil truly is in our hands.
